“Humility In Prayer”

Difficulty: Easy
Talent Needed: Beginner

Synopsis: This is an excellent “beginner” vignette for someone who is suffering from stage fright or not confident speaking in front of others. The skit involves three people with only one role being an “outspoken” more over the top position.  This skit will demonstrate the simple truth of God answering the prayers of the humble.

Cast of Characters:

God
Pharisee Type
Humble Broken Person

Staging:

“God” will stand in the middle of the stage – slightly elevated if possible, the “Humble Broken Person” will be towards the front of the stage knelt and facing the floor – the “Humble Broken Person” should be directly in front of “God”.  The “Pharisee Type” person is roaming the audience at will – appealing to those who are there and watching.

Skit:

Pharisee Type: {In Very Loud Voice and Making SURE The Audience Is Hearing AND Watching} “OH God. Thank you that you have made me the mighty man of God. I thank you that I am not like the peasant person! I thank you for the riches that you have given me and ask that you do something with all those on the street.  And this man here can you believe how he enters your house? Oh thank you that I am better than that!”  {As the Pharisee Type Keeps Talking, “God” Slowly Turns His Back and Ignores The Prayer Entirely – At The End of The Script the “Pharisee Type” Continues Silently As If He Is Still In Prayer—Continuing the Large Gestures and All.}

Humble Broken Person: {Begins to Weep – Softly, Just Loud Enough To Be Heard – “God” is Moved And Begins To Move Towards The “Humble Broken Person”. As “God” Approaches The Person He Slowly Bends Over And Embraces This Person As He Continues To Pray}

:: Curtain ::

Intention: The idea is to show that God not only hears your prayers when you are broken before Him, but that He surrounds you and is greatly moved by your prayers and humility.  The one who prays for others, however, insults God and is ignored all together – for indeed, that man already has his reward.
